    Job Title: Guidance - Head Start (Family Services)

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    Reports to: Director of Early Education / Head Start

    Supervises: N/A

    Pay Grade: Teacher Salary Schedule

    Term of Employment: 10 months


    JOB SUMMARY

    The Guidance - Head Start (Family Services), under the direction of Director of Early Education / Head Start performs, work that assures the delivery of health and social services to enrolled children and their families.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Education:
    • Required - Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work or related field
    • Required- Master’s degree in education, counseling, social work or related field
    • Experience:
    • Required - Minimum of three (3) years working in education, counseling, social work and/or human service setting as a counselor
    • Preferred- Minimum of five (5) years working with at-risk children and their families in education, counseling and/or social work and/or human service setting as a counselor
    • Language:
    • Required – English
    • Preferred – English and Spanish
    • Certification:
    • Required – Wisconsin License in Social Worker or Counselor. (Reference: Head Start | ECLKC | Education Requirements for Health Services Managers and Health Professionals, and Head Start Policy and Regulations 1302.91. WI DPI license not required for 100% Head Start funded role)

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Provides counseling services to individual students, student groups in a classroom situation, or through referrals from administration, teachers, parents or community agencies.
    • Provides professional assistance to teachers, administrators, educational support professionals, parents, community agencies, staffing committees, help teams, crisis resource management teams, referral review committees, and other related professionals as it relates to student guidance services.
    • Conducts parent workshops and staff development presentations as it relates to student guidance services.
    • Refers students and/or families to the appropriate intra-District programs, community agencies, and other programs outside of the district as it relates to providing student guidance services.
    • Supports and identifies children with mental health and social emotional concerns in the Head Start program.
    • Provides crisis intervention and takes a lead role in planning and facilitation of interventions for students with significant behavior challenges at Chavez Learning Station.
    • Actively participates in the Collaborative Student Intervention (CSI) process at Chavez Learning Station.
    • Partners with the PBIS Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams at Chavez Learning Station to provide strategies for supporting children with challenging behaviors and other social, emotional and mental health concerns.
    • Builds community partnerships to facilitate family access to additional resources and services as needed.
    • Partners with Head Start staff to provide support and resources for mental health for the children and families.
    • Collaborates with Family Services staff to plan and implement family engagement activities and parent education programs.
    • Refers families for external community agency supports and intra-district supports as needed.
    • Monitors Family Services activities, i.e. caseloads, documentation of services, Family Partnerships, etc.
    • Accurately maintains and submits required Head Start Family Service and Mental Health reports by established due dates and maintains quarterly data reports using Child Plus.
    • Partners with the Head Start Director and Education Coordinator to provide staff professional learning regarding social emotional and mental health issues.
    • Remains current with Head Start performance standards, the Head Start Act and Kenosha Unified policies and procedures.
    • Maintains competency in research-based positive behavioral and instructional practices by participating in appropriate professional development activities (conferences, workshops, summer academics, meetings).
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Must be able to remain in a stationary position (standing, sitting, stooping) for long periods of time; must be able to move about inside the school building to perform essential job functions; consistently and repetitively operates a computer and other office machinery including but not limited to copy machine and/or computer printer; consistently and regularly required to position self at sitting, standing, and stooping levels; regularly required to communicate and exchange accurate information with administration, staff, student, and the public; frequently moves items weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted.
