Essential Duties
- Provides and coordinates athletic training services to MUW student athletes.
- Plans, develops and implements the athletic training programs, including prevention, assessment, rehabilitation and treatment of injuries
- Consults with the following as needed and required: physicians, vendors, university insurance vendors.
- Works closely with physicians and rehabilitation clinics.
- Provides sports medicine consultation with coaches, athletes, and parents.
- Submits all claims to insurance for payment.
- Maintains daily treatment records, logs and detailed medical records of services rendered.
- Oversees the completion of all NCAA paperwork as required and adheres to documentation compliance.
- Monitors athletic training software to ensure all required information remains updated.
- Maintains all athletic training room modalities and ensure they remain in good working condition.
- Orders and maintains the appropriate amount of supplies needed to effectively operate an athletic training room.
- Sets consistent training room hours and is available during those times for student athlete treatment.
- Works closely with university administration regarding student athletes’ safety.
- Attends all home events to cover athletic training duties as required by the SLIAC and NCAA; maintains accessibility, either in person or by electronic communication, during practices and games.
- Determines when additional training help may be required and communicates need with the Director of Athletics.
- Communicates effectively with the Director of Athletics
- May work hours that are longer than the standard 8 hour day.
- Performs other reasonable duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine or related field; master’s degree preferred
- At least three (3) years of licensed practical experiences; five (5) years preferred
Other Skills, Abilities and Qualifications:
- Licensed Athletic Trainer required
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification required (or ability to achieve these certifications within 60 days of hire)
- Valid Mississippi Driver’s License
- Knowledge of Athletic Training principles and treatment modalities to assess and treat injuries
- Knowledge of sports rules and regulations
- Ability to learn and utilize a variety of technological tools and applications pertaining to athletic training
- Good communication skills, verbal, written and interpersonal
- Proficient computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong leadership and managerial skills
- Ability to work in a diverse environment of student athletes, coaches and administrators
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work flexible hours, evenings and some weekends as necessary
Job Description Summary
In accordance with the applicable state laws, rules and regulations, the licensed athletic trainer provides athletic training services to the Athletic Department and student athletes.
