Groundskeeper cuts and maintains lawns and grass. Rakes leaves and cares for plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs. Being a Groundskeeper determines the appropriate plants or shrubs for walkways or garden areas. Provides grounds maintenance in all seasons. Additionally, Groundskeeper is responsible for snow and dirt removal. Keeps the grounds and environment of a facility in a clean, attractive, orderly, safe, and healthy condition. Operates light trucks and assorted power equipment. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance on gardening and grounds equipment. May require horticultural training. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Groundskeeper works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Requires abilities in the operation of mowers, weed eaters, hand tools and other equipment used in grounds maintenance. Involves manual labor in maintaining the city’s Parks & Cemeteries while also providing street maintenance support. Provide custodial and maintenance support to the Sportsplex and other City facilities/parks. Also, requires sufficient strength to perform strenuous physical outside labor for extended periods even during adverse weather conditions. M-F 7:00am - 4:00pm shift schedule. Occasional weekend and evening shifts required. Must possess a valid driver’s license and a high school diploma or GED. CDL license a plus.
