TITLE:   Groundskeeper

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Plant and maintain trees, shrubs, flowers, and lawns of school grounds.  Perform general maintenance on landscaped areas surrounding the schools.  Assist skilled craft, warehouse technicians and school based staff.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Education and/or experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
2. One (1) year of experience in the care and maintenance of grounds (preferred)
3. State of Arizona Identity Verified (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
4. Must possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License with a clean driving record

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Mow lawns, remove debris from stairs and walkways; rake leaves; and edge sidewalks.
• Prune trees and shrubs; plant shrubs; trees and flowers; pulls weeds.
• Check sprinklers; perform irrigation activities; and water trees, shrubs and lawns.
• May operate equipment such as mowers, trucks, skiploaders, chainsaws, brush trimmers, weed whackers, and a variety of hand tools.
• Maintain and repair equipment and tools as needed.
• Assist with moving tables, chairs and other furniture.
• May assist in various custodial duties and the maintenance of other areas.
• Perform maintenance and repair on equipment and tools as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS: 

• Knowledge of equipment, tools, and procedures of grounds care
• Knowledge of the operation, use and routine maintenance of grounds power equipment and tools
• Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
• Skill in operating grounds maintenance equipment

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Hazardous chemicals and dangerous machinery

Exposure to extreme weather conditions

PHYSICAL EFFORT: 

Lifts, moves, or carries objects weighing up to 80 pounds

Frequently bending, stooping, climbing, reaching

WORK YEAR: 12 months
