  • Horner & Shifrin is seeking a full-time GIS Analyst to work in our Geomatics business unit. This position requires 5 years of experience.

     

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

    • Develop project teams, assuring quality goals are met, develop fee and scope proposals, monitor schedules, resolve issues in the field and during design, and supervise team members during project execution.
    • Lead the development and implementation of data topology methods and procedures for data storage to support uses of GIS.
    • Ensure impacts to schedule or budget are communicated to client and internal staff as needed to achieve or enhance the desired profitability for projects and pursue opportunities for additional services.
    • Communicate and follow up with clients and monitor project budget and schedule.
    • Prepares applications to support field operations.
    • Combine data from various sources such as GIS, CAD, GPS, UAS, LiDAR, relational databases.
    • Assist with GIS workflow and application programming.
    • Manipulate and analyze geographical information to be presented in reports or presentations.
    • Assist the Geomatics Business Unit with a variety of data acquisition, processing, and modeling.
    • Prepare maps, tabular data, charts, graphs, and statistical comparisons using ArcGIS, MS Access, MS Excel, and other applicable software packages.
    • Maintain and adhere to QA/QC procedures/note taking and maintaining office and field project material.
    • Gathers field data using GPS or mobile devices for use in various mapping applications.
    • Convert data from older sources such as maps and books into digital formats.
    • Perform storing vector and raster data in a relational database management system.
    • Additional duties as assigned by Business Unit Leader, Assistant Business Unit Leader and/or Snior GIS Analyst, such as, but not limited to, speaking engagements, conferences, webinars, committees, membership, councils, volunteering, etc.

     

     

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Demonstrates an understanding of spatial data and algorithms.
    • Actively increasing basic technical knowledge and skills through completion of both formal and informal training.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Must possess critical thinking and analytical skills.
    • Must possess a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills to be able to work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain all information in strict confidence. Required to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
    • Must have the ability to read, write, communicate, and comprehend instructions. Ability to compose correspondence and memos using correct grammar and spelling. Ability to read, understand and communicate information effectively.
    • Must maintain a safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules and regulations, following companywide policies and procedures. 
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  Ability to apply logic and reasoning to ensure successful outcomes.
    • Must possess attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects and have strong time management skills. 
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
    • Must successfully pass a background check as part of an agreement with clients.
    • This is a full-time position, which requires working a minimum of 40 hours on a regular basis. Oftentimes it may include working outside of normal business hours to ensure completion of position requirements.
    • Ability to work overtime as needed.
    • Extended overnight travel up to 5 days as needed.
    • PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a variety of environmental conditions, both indoors and out, with exposure to wide temperature variations, noise, vibrations, fumes, grease, machinery and its moving parts, odors, and dust. Physical demands require bending, stooping, and frequently lifting moderately heavy and heavy objects. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Some exposure to hazardous chemicals. Incumbent must be able to see and hear in the normal range with or without correction and communicate verbally and in written form with great facility and must be able to be understood. Incumbent will be required to respond to emergencies after regular working hours and on weekends, and must be willing to work an irregular schedule, which may include weekends, holidays, evenings, and/or varying shifts.

     

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in geography, computer science, or related field (Required).
    • Master’s degree (Plus).
    • 5-10 years’ experience in GIS software (ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, Web-Based Mapping), Microsoft Office products; relational database experience (Preferred).
    • Experience with client communication or project management (Plus).
    • FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot License (Plus).
    • Experience with the Python ArcPy, C#, JavaScript, and/or VB (Plus).

     

    SALARY RANGE:

    Salary will be commensurate with experience.
