GIS Analyst
LOCATION: Boston, MA; Hybrid Schedule
Summary:
The GIS Analyst is responsible for analyzing spatial data through mapping software and designing digital maps with geographic data and various other data sets. The role involves the collection, maintenance, and analysis of data to support decision-making processes in various departments within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Collection and Analysis:
- Collect, compile, and analyze geographic data from various sources including surveys, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps.
- Perform spatial data analysis and interpret the results to support planning and decision-making processes.
- Mapping and Visualization:
- Create high-quality maps and other visual representations of data for reports, presentations, and web-based applications.
- Use GIS software to create and maintain digital maps and spatial databases.
- Database Management:
- Maintain and update GIS databases, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
- Manage spatial data sets and ensure their proper organization and accessibility.
- Technical Support:
- Provide technical support and training to other staff members on the use of GIS applications and tools.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to GIS software and hardware.
- Project Management:
- Assist in the planning and execution of GIS projects.
- Coordinate with other departments and external partners to gather necessary data and ensure project goals are met.
- Reporting:
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations based on GIS analyses.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders effectively.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
- Experience:
- At least 2-3 years of experience in GIS analysis and mapping.
- Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar platforms.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in GIS software and tools (ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.).
- Knowledge of spatial analysis techniques and methodologies.
- Familiarity with database management systems and spatial databases.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python or R is a plus.
- Other Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
