Genetics Counselor jobs in Arizona
Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Requires board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Typically requires a state license to practice. Genetics Counselor's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

- Responsibilities*
- SUMMARY* - The Genetic Counselor works as a member of a health care team providing risk assessment, education and supportive counseling to individuals and families at risk for; or diagnosed with a variety of inherited conditions. The Genetic Counselor will interpret genetic testing, support clinically-related genetics research and serve as an institute and community resource for aspects and issues related to human genetics.
- Qualifications*
- MINIMUM* Masters degree in genetics counseling or related field required. Board certification in genetic counseling by the American Board of Medical Genetics required.
- PREFERRED* Two or more years experience in genetic counseling
