Fraud Prevention Supervisor supervises fraud detection associates in their effort to identify and prevent future fraud. Researches, documents, and implements best practices in the fraud prevention industry. Additionally, Fraud Prevention Supervisor analyzes current processes and procedures and makes recommendations to promote more effective operations. Provides training and guidance to new employees. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Fraud Prevention Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Fraud Prevention Supervisor typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. UI Fraud Investigator - Limited Service

    The Vermont Department of Labor is seeking applicants with experience doing investigative work, knowledge of unemployment insurance, data evaluation and interpretation, customer service, and/or report writing to join the Fraud Unit within the Unemployment Insurance Division.     The UI Fraud Investigator is an entry-level position that is responsible for conducting fraud detection activities and suspected fraud investigations involving current and former recipients of benefits in the Department's Unemployment Insurance Programs, including the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Program.

    Examples Of Typical Job Duties Include

    • Resolving data match information, reviews fraud referrals, Department records, and documents to determine if sufficient grounds exist for further investigation or over payment recovery.
    • Conducting suspected fraud investigations to establish facts and accountability including financial restitution and possible program disqualification.
    • Coordinating investigative activities with Department staff, police, and legal authorities.
    • Maintaining detailed records and reports of case activities, outcomes and financial impact.
    • Determining the potential for successful prosecution or payment recovery, works with legal counsel and the State's Attorney, and may testify in court or in an Administrative Hearing.

    The Successful Applicant Will Have Demonstrated Success In

    • Working in a highly goal-oriented cooperative team environment;
    • Basic to intermediate skill in Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, and OneDrive;
    • Understanding and applying standard physical and digital file management practices that protect sensitive information;
    • The ability to work independently by self-managing daily and weekly workplans to ensure work timeliness;
    • Ability to stay organized and on task while handling multiple and changing high priority items;
    • Ability to learn new tasks and processes quickly and effectively; and
    • Passion for continuous learning and improvement with their work.

    The Fraud Unit staff work in-person at the Vermont Department of Labor Central Office in Montpelier, and the successful applicant will be expected to work on-site, full-time, Monday through Friday.

    Who May Apply

    This position, UI Fraud Investigator - Limited Service (Job Requisition #49188), is open to all State employees and external applicants. It is a Limited Service position, which is non-tenured and authorized for a specific period of time. Limited Service positions are established for specially funded projects or programs.

    Environmental Factors

    Position may require field work and overtime. Private means of transportation must be available for field duties. Client hostility and or reluctance to cooperate in investigations may occur. Threats of varying types and severity against the investigator are possible. Formal testimony is subject to cross examination.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Two (2) years or more of experience in UI eligibility determinations.

    OR

    Four (4) years or more at or above a paraprofessional or technical level in program eligibility determination, conducting investigations, fact finding, claims adjustment, or other pertinent work involving the compilation and analysis of evidence.
