Financial Reporting Director directs and oversees the preparation and distribution of all periodic financial statements for external use. Ensures that reports, filings and documentation complies with company's regulations, professional standards, and SEC and GAAP reporting guidelines. Being a Financial Reporting Director confirms that entries, transactions, and accounts are accurately and properly consolidated and are included in internal and external financial statements. Advises management of trends and changes in reporting requirements and recommends best approach for any changes in reporting. Additionally, Financial Reporting Director may serve as a liaison with or oversee the work of external auditors. May direct the preparation of materials for board or shareholders. Requires a bachelor's degree of Accounting or Finance. Typically reports to top management. The Financial Reporting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Financial Reporting Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     We’re searching for a Director of Financial Reporting to join our growing and evolving finance and accounting team.  This position will report to the Chief Accounting Officer and will be responsible for compiling and generating annual and quarterly financial statements and the MD&A as well as other filings, as necessary (Offering Memorandums, Form S-1, 401k, annual proxy statement, etc.) of a SEC registrant and public company. The person filling this position will also be very involved in the monthly and quarterly close and internal and external financial reporting efforts.  

     

    Responsibilities of the Director of Financial Reporting position include the following: 

     

    • Prepare, coordinate and review all periodic external financial reporting for the Company, including the preparation and filing of financial statements, registrations and other compliance filings. Ensure financial statements are in compliance with GAAP and SEC regulatory requirements, as applicable. Perform or direct all accounting and technical compliance research related to external filings, ensuring the Company is aware of, and in compliance with, the latest reporting requirements. 

     

    • Assist in the implementation of accounting policies, procedures and systems as required, and ensure internal control procedures are adequate, properly documented and regularly reviewed.        Maintain compliance with and conduct technical accounting research as needed on GAAP rules and regulations and also all federal, state and local regulations.
    • Knowledge of key areas of revenue recognition accounting issues including software and licensing revenue reporting standards. Familiarity with contract review relative to revenue recognition trigger points. Sound understanding of ASC 606 compliance.

     

    • Help lead a talented team through the monthly and quarterly close process including ensuring internal control procedures are timely completed.
    • Analyze monthly financial performance and provide insightful review.
    • Maintain and enhance good accounting and controls to track and maintain valuation of inventories; conduct variance reporting, analyses and remediation recommendations.
    • Manage, train and assist in leading accounting department.  Motivate and reinforce teamwork.  
    • Work closely with external auditors in preparation of data and materials for quarterly and annual financial audits.
    • Work closely with internal control auditors to assist with SOX project management.
    • Develop and implement standard operating procedures, processes and operational controls. Regularly review these procedures, as well as employee adherence to them. Ability to work with process simplification and driving operational efficiencies.
    • Complete special financial and administrative projects as needed.

    Position Requirements

     

    In addition to the necessary skills and experience to perform the responsibilities outlined above, there are a number of traits that a successful candidate will possess.  

     

    Technical

     

    • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related business field and a CPA are required.  
    • Minimum of 8 years of relevant accounting and/or financial reporting experience.  Public accounting background is preferred.
    • Technical financial reporting expertise including extensive knowledge of GAAP, SEC rules and regulations, regulatory accounting, and reporting requirements.
    • Experience in the payment processing industry preferred but not required.
    • Mergers and acquisition and integration of financial operating systems experience preferred. 
    • Ability to lead projects and interface and communicate effectively with corporate management and all other functions in the Company. 
    • Strong computer skills including knowledge of computer financial applications and ERP packages, particularly Workiva as an SEC reporting platform, Blackline as a close management platform and NetSuite as an ERP system. Proficiency in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Excellent written and presentation skills coupled with strong interpersonal and team-building capabilities across different functional areas and cultures.
