Exhibit Designer - Museum designs and constructs museum collections, exhibits, and special projects. Researches ideas and materials for an exhibit, recommends solutions for design problems, and utilizes design techniques to produce desired visual effect and educational message. Being an Exhibit Designer - Museum may require a master's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Exhibit Designer - Museum gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     The Seasonal Museum Associate position ensures a positive guest experience for all visitors. It is the role of the Museum Associate to facilitate play-based interactions with guests and maintain engaging, clean, and safe exhibit spaces. Museum associates will report to floor staff managers. 


    Position Specifications: This seasonal position is for 24 hours from Mid-April to Oct. 31, 2024. The schedule is varied, with additional hours as needed to meet business needs for evenings, weekends, and special events. 


    Benefits: Paid sick leave begins accruing from date of hire. 401(k) Retirement Plan with eligibility to contribute after a 3-month waiting period (must be 21 years of age).     Rate: $19.30/hour (additional $1/hour for bilingual proficiency) 


    Job duties:

    • Greet and welcome adults and children, engage in conversations and facilitate in-exhibit play. 
    • Maintain clean, safe and inviting environments in all Museum spaces 
    • Actively address guest feedback and work to improve overall guest experience 
    • Maintain current knowledge of all programming, special events and exhibit schedules 
    • Support Front Desk and Café operations as necessary 
    • Operate exhibit spaces for opening, resetting and closing including consumable maintenance 
    • Collaborate with team and take initiative to provide assistance to others on a regular basis 
    • Facilitate programming and engage in playful interactions within the exhibit spaces 
    • Create invitation and inspiration for visiting children and families through play facilitation 
    • Support Museum after-hours events as required (minimum one event per month) 
    • Assist in training new employees when assigned 
    • Coordinate with and support volunteers throughout the Museum 
    • Other duties as assigned

    Physical requirements: 

    • Ability to stand for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours) in a fast-paced environment. 
    • Frequently move, transport and position museum consumables up to 50lbs around campus for various Museum operation’s needs 
    • Stand or walk for long periods of time 
    • Effectively operate a two-way radio to frequently communicate and exchange information with staff 
    • Frequently communicate with staff with daily inquiries and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. 
    • Other physical requirements may include, but are not limited to, walking, bending, stooping, crouching or reaching. 

    Qualifications: 

    • Ability to communicate with guests and co-workers in direct, respectful and confident manner 
    • Ability to work effectively and accurately in a fast-paced environment while maintaining excellent guest service 
    • Clean, neat and professional appearance 
    • Ability to maintain a clean work environment 
    • Interest and enthusiasm for working with children and families 
    • High energy and interest in engaging with visitors while moving throughout the Museum 
    • Fluent English proficiency: writing, reading and speaking skills, bilingual Spanish preferred 
    • Minimum of 18 years of age 
    • High School diploma or equivalent required 
    • Must pass Museum pre-employment screening process
