Estimating Director leads the estimating function and develops standards, procedures, tools, and methodologies to produce cost estimates for technical projects based on work scope, specifications, and proposal or contract requirements. Establishes processes to perform analysis of project requirements, plans, and specifications to identify labor, material, equipment, and service requirements. Being an Estimating Director incorporates benchmark data, trends, and historical pricing to generate detailed cost estimates that consist of itemized lists of expenses, labor hours, material quantities, and potential cost variations. Develops a workflow and system for scheduling and processing estimate requests and communicating with stakeholders. Additionally, Estimating Director depending on the complexity and type of project, may use different estimating methods, mathematical models, or specialized estimating software tools to generate estimates. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Estimating Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Estimating Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. What you’ll do:- Manage the project estimation process and be responsible for timely delivery of estimates to sales groups within the company
- Support project sales during proposal stage by reviewing bid documents, RFPs, preliminary project information, and site characteristics
- Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of the estimate
- Prepare estimates by calculating the complete takeoff of the scope of work
- Participate in bid strategy and presentation meetings as requested
- Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; negotiating price
- Coordinate the entire estimating process from concept through project award and create Bill of Materials for project cost and construction
- Review and incorporate historical data from past projects, subcontractor costs, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures
- Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures
- Develop cost reduction processes and material usage methods to reduce cost of goods while maintaining quality
- Develop knowledge of best material suppliers to stay abreast of pricing and other opportunities to provide better value to customers
- Bachelor’s degree in business management or related programs
- 10 years of electrical estimating experience, in solar or high voltage projects preferred
- Must have hands on knowledge of principles of estimating including budgeting, tracking, change orders for PV solar projects. Experience with battery storage preferred
- Advanced knowledge of estimating techniques and cost control, plus the ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems is essential
- Intimate knowledge of construction activities, production rates, equipment selection, building types and construction methods
- Must have the ability to prepare complex proposals with minimal supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or other qualification will be a plus
- Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment
- Demonstrated organization and analytical skills and the ability to diagnose and analyze problems and drive appropriate solutions
- Ability to handle multiple projects in an organized and accurate manner
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screen
- Sit at a desk 6-8 hours per day performing tasks on a computer
- Requires periods of walking, standing with some light lifting of files
- Minimal bending, stooping or reaching
- Primarily office setting with no extreme temperature variations
- Requiring normal safety precautions with minimal occupational health and safety risks
- Moderate to low noise levels
- Requires considerable concentration
- Stresses induced by changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines
- and high volume of workload and shifting goals

Salary range: $150,000 - $200,000 per year based on experience.
