Being an Environmental Engineer performs experiments and reports findings on environmental consequences of equipment, tools, and procedures. Ensures the organization's conformance to federal, state, and local environmental legislation. Additionally, Environmental Engineer requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be an Environmental Engineer typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Basic Job Functions:
The environmental engineer will be responsible for leading safety and compliance obligations for both the department and division. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: maintain compliance with all environmental reporting requirements; implement and manage environmental programs, including ISO 14001 and mill-wide environmental training; actively engage with the production team to assist understanding and continuous improvement of environmental compliance; coordinate air, water, waste and radiation permits, licenses, rules, regulations and programs; and participate in community outreach efforts. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead and uphold safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:- Minimum of two years' experience in environmental compliance, permitting and reporting in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of environmental regulations (air, water, hazardous waste)
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental, civil, chemical engineering or related degree.
- Four-year degree from an accredited university in engineering, preferable environmental, civil or chemical, environmental science, or related degree.
- Experience in environmental compliance in a manufacturing or other industrial environment.
- Experience with implementation and maintenance of an ISO14001 or equivalent EMS.
