Job Description
The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. Responsibilities
The selected candidate will lead the NYPD Energy Team in an effort to reduce energy usage and emissions at each department facility. Specifically, the Energy Manager will be responsible for the following:- Manage the agency’s operations improvements, preventative maintenance procedures, and information management.
- Setup / fill-out applications for ACE, excel, etc. Review calculations for the applications.
- Oversee performance of scheduled Demand Response days; assist setup new accounts for DR & real-time metering.
- Perform construction management work overseeing routine reconstruction projects, or assisting in overseeing new construction or major reconstruction projects and/or maintenance/ repair projects.
- Reviews and approves change orders in routine reconstruction projects. Recommends change on new or major construction projects
- Evaluates reports of hazardous conditions requiring managerial decision. Makes determinations and reports recommendations to the manager.
Qualification Requirements- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in architecture or architectural technology; biology; building science; chemistry; construction management; energy management; engineering or engineering technology; environmental science; facilities management; physics; or a related field, and four (4) years of satisfactory, full-time experience in energy generation or conservation work such as planning, developing, implementing, inspecting, analyzing, testing, and verifying interventions at facilities to generate clean energy or reduce energy usage, one (1) year of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity; or
- An associate degree or sixty (60) semester credits in any of the disciplines described in “1” above from an accredited college or university, and six (6) years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in “1” above including one (1) year in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity; or
- A four (4) year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and eight (8) years of experience as described in “1” above, including one (1) year in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity.
- Education and experience which is equivalent to "1," "2," or "3" above. However, all candidates must have one (1) year of experience in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity as described in “1” above. Education and experience will be credited as follows:
- One (1) year of experience, up to a maximum of four (4) years, will be credited for each year of experience in one or more of the following:
- Journey-level experience in one or more of the skilled building trades; or
iii) Full-time building construction management experience; or
iv) Full-time experience in construction field supervision or inspection.- Education will be credited as follows:
- One (1) year of experience will be credited for every 30 semester credits leading to a baccalaureate degree or associate degree in any of the disciplines described in “1” above, or a related field, up to a maximum of four (4) years.
iii) A license as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect issued pursuant to the New York State Education Law will be credited for four (4) years of acceptable experience.
License Requirement
A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York may be required for certain assignments. This license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.
Special Note
Incumbents may be required to update existing and/or obtain additional professional industry-standard certification(s) and licenses.
Preferred Skills
Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications: - An advanced degree in engineering/urban planning/policy or a related field. Experience analyzing and presenting utility/energy information. - Experience auditing commercial or institutional energy bills. - Knowledge of applicable Energy Codes and Standards - Experience analyzing and presenting utility/energy information. - Knowledge of commercial and industrial utility billing. - Knowledge of energy market dynamics. - Knowledge of new and emerging trends in the area of energy efficiency. - Aptitude for energy conversion calculations including weather normalization. - Ability to analyze and present complex data sets using the City's databases, Microsoft Excel and Power Point. - Knowledge of database management on Microsoft Access and integrated workflow management systems. - Strong writing, organizational, communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
