    About You

Udemy’s People team is responsible for ensuring we win together as an organization. We focus on creating an environment where Udemates can do the best work of their lives, and the Senior Employee Relations Manager role is critical to this mission. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Total Rewards and People Operations, this position is the first employee relations (ER) role at the company and will be responsible for building and developing our ER processes and strategy.

    About This Role

In this role, you will provide a broad range of professional employee relations activities including but not limited to employee consulting, conflict resolution, complaint investigation, policy interpretation and the preparation and delivery of related summary reports and recommendations. You will interact with all levels of leadership regarding investigations, discipline, performance management, terminations, and negotiated separations. You will work with a great deal of independent discretion in decision-making and execution of responsibilities.

    What you'll be doing

    • Build and implement the company’s first ER program, including developing strategies, and scalable resources.
    • Manage all aspects of ER cases, including conducting interviews, preparing reports, and owning investigation outcomes and closeout; tracking and preparing status updates and coordinating input from multiple stakeholders; assessing risks in partnership with the HRBP and employment counsel; and advising on and overseeing disciplinary and remediation actions.
    • Assist with conflict resolution including facilitating and/or mediating difficult workplace issues.
    • Design policy content and counsel employees, managers, and the People Team on ER best practices, helping to identify and build strategies to enhance ER capabilities.
    • Work closely with HRBPs to design performance management practices, policies and templates that will drive consistency across the organization.
    • Root cause analysis and recommendations regarding policy changes, development, interpretation, and precedent setting problem resolution.
    • Maintain knowledge of, interpret, and provide guidance to managers and the People Team on ER practices that implicate the ADA/FMLA, Title VII, federal and state labor laws.

    What you’ll have

    • Minimum of 7 years of corporate employee relations experience and/or employment legal. Global experience preferred.
    • Expertise in consultation, investigations, guidance, policy development, and coaching to senior managers to address sensitive and/or difficult employee behavior and performance concerns.
    • Proven ability to establish influential partnerships working with peers, senior leaders, and across organizational lines to provide effective and strategic ER counsel.
    • Prior experience in designing/implementing HR compliance and ER processes, policies, and systems that work at scale and experience scaling processes and programs in high-growth global technology companies and global environments.
    • Effectively manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, prioritize conflicting demands, and execute initiatives with a bias towards actions and solutions.
    • Proven track record of consultative HR experience and working autonomously in a start-up environment.
    • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills, attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks, and work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
    • Adaptability to a constantly changing environment, and ability to travel to HQ in San Francisco at least two times per year, or as needed to meet business demands.

We understand that not everyone will match each of the above qualifications. However, we also realize that everyone has unique experiences that can add value to our company. Even if you think your background might not perfectly align, we'd love to hear from you!

We want you to be able to bring your authentic self to work because when we all do, we’re better for it.
    • Learning is what we do – inside and out. Our Learning & Development team is second to none, helping ensure your journey is one of continuous progression. You’ll also have unlimited access to Udemy courses, monthly UDays (meeting-free professional development days), and a generous annual professional development stipend.
    • Our reason to exist is to revolutionize learning – that calls for taking risks and learning from failures. Whether it’s our hackathons (a company-wide effort to envision new possibilities for our product) or sharing our prototypes, we see experimentation as a crucial step on the path to success.
