JOB OVERVIEW:
The Powerline Foreman is a working foreman responsible for providing field supervision over crews involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of underground and overhead electric distribution and service lines, transformers, meters, metering equipment and related equipment. This is a working supervisor position, and thus requires the foreman to have equivalent knowledge and to perform the same activities as those being supervised.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide leadership and direction necessary to manage a crew.
- Identify equipment requirements including bucket trucks, safety equipment, and crew trucks needed to carry out the project.
- Ensure employees work in a safe, high-quality manner and comply with the rules of BLS Electrical, our customers and regulatory agencies.
- Schedule work crews to ensure project deadlines are met
- Communicate directly with Supervisors, Managers, Line crews and other personnel as required.
- Ability to prepare progress and status reports for projects showing work performed, and progress against project schedule
- Ability to work with multiple departments to ensure efficient work scheduling and project completion dates.
- Must be trained and knowledgeable in the install and construction of overhead power line facilities
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and knowledge of OSHA’s safe energized working clearances
- Install, remove, transfer, maintain and/or repair cross arms, pins, insulators, guys, transformer and switch racks and other overhead pole equipment using a variety of hand tools, equipment, and power tools
- Install and remove transformers and self-contained meters; cut-outs, disconnecting switches, circuit breakers and other overhead line devices, rigging block and tackle where necessary or working with ground crew and winch to raise or lower equipment
- Perform emergency repairs; performs load checks and balances feeders
- Inspect lines, poles, and equipment for signs of damage or wear and reports deficiencies
- Carry poles, dig holes, guy poles and other such operations involved in the setting or replacing of poles; may erect steel towers
- Troubleshoot electrical problems on company and customer equipment
- Ensure all High Voltage equipment and PPE’s are in good working order and tested to meet OSHA requirements.
- Utilize a working knowledge of BLS Electrical High Voltage Safety and Grounding Manuals.
- Increase job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical and regulation publications, as applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma/GED or higher level and accredited Lineman schooling.
- 5 years’ experience as Journeyman level lineman.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License and a Journeyman Lineman License for state of work.
- Able to communicate effectively (i.e. reading, writing, speaking) in the English language.
- Ability to work with minimal or no supervision.
Additional:
- Able to provide your own hand tools.
- Able to read blue prints.
- Possess a safe driving record.
- Able to obtain a DOT Medical card and keep it current throughout employment
- Competent documentation skills.
Both mental and physical labor are a part of this job. Working conditions could be indoor or outdoor and the job may be subject to extreme weather conditions. Some light to moderate travel is possible.
