EAP Counselor coordinates and implements an organization's Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Serves as a knowledgeable resource for employees seeking information and guidance on mental health and wellness topics. Being an EAP Counselor conducts confidential assessments to determine the needs of employees seeking assistance. Provides short-term counseling and support services to employees and provides referrals to external resources when necessary. Additionally, EAP Counselor maintains accurate and confidential records of EAP services provided, ensuring compliance with privacy laws and regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The EAP Counselor occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     SUMMARY OF DUTIES

    Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, the EAP Counselor IV is responsible for providing short-term counseling to employees and household members of contracted EAP companies in person and via telehealth.

    Counseling services includes assessment; formulation of action plan / goals; short-term, solution-focused counseling; referrals;

    case management; resources and follow-up. Direct communication with employer representatives is also required. May also provide direct service to EAP contracted companies, which includes workplace training, orientation sessions, open enrollment events, benefits fairs and management consultation.

    EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

    Masters' Degree from a school accredited by a recognized accrediting agency. Requires knowledge of an advanced type.

    Other (Specify) : Professional License (LCSW, MFT, MHC, PH.D. or equivalent) required or obtainable within a year. May be required to obtain CISM and SAP certification and become FEI approved, if eligible.

    EXPERIENCE

    Over two years, up to and including four years.

    Other (Specify) : Knowledge of EAP and organization and management development. Experience as a direct service provider.

    SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    • Experience with Employee Assistance Programs preferred.
    • Experience in providing chemical dependency assessment and certifiable by the State of Hawaii as a Substance Abuse Counselor.
    • Eligible as a SAP preferred.
    • Experience in providing training and consultation to management, including knowledge of organizational development and labor relations also preferred.
    • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks, work under moderate to high levels of stress, adapt well to change, have and use good people skills and the ability to work independently.
    • May require driving throughout the island and interisland travel.

    OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    • This job requires a valid Hawaii driver's license, a clear driver's abstract, and willingness to travel in personal vehicle on an as-needed basis throughout the island.
    • Verification of licensure / certification will be required at time of appointment / hire, and continued employment is contingent on maintaining licensure / certification.
    • This position is subject to a criminal background investigation and continued employment is contingent on a record clear of convictions.
    • Continued employment in this position is contingent on successful completion of CPR, CPI and / or van driving training as such training is necessary to ensure ability / continued ability to perform essential functions of this job.
