Diesel Mechanic performs inspection, maintenance, repairs, and overhauls of diesel engines. Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems. Being a Diesel Mechanic utilizes computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes. Replaces and/or refurbishes parts. Additionally, Diesel Mechanic maintains maintenance logs according to requirements. Ensures services provided follow all quality standards and safety procedures. May perform DOT annual inspections on vehicles. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. Typically requires a Certificate in Automotive & Diesel Technology. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Diesel Mechanic works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. We offer competitive compensation and benefits and a culture that appreciates and rewards excellence, a positive attitude and integrity.Conduct general maintenance and preventative maintenance on transport, bobtail and small fleet trucksAble to inspect, troubleshoot, conduct diagnostics and repair of minor electrical issuesEnsure that all repairs and PM's are completed according to the manufacturers and Swaggin Wagon, Inc. specifications and guidelinesMust have own hand and pneumatic toolsAdvanced knowledge of diesel engine repairs on four different manufacturers engine linesMust have a valid driver license - CDL Class A preferredAble to perform and complete DOT InspectionsOvertime is requiredEnsure work area is clean after each jobEnsure all work documentation conforms to Swaggin Wagon, Inc. policiesShould be able to work independently Travel is required for this position - this position will work in the shop and may also work in the fieldMay be asked to participate in any other related task or activity which management determines his/her skills would be useful or neededQualifications Specific CAT product knowledge of gas, diesel, electrical, electronic, and mechanical and components a PLUSRemove and install parts, disassemble and assemble components, clean and inspect assemblies with minimal supervisionProficient use of basic hand tools, air tools, precision measuring tools and instrumentsThis position requires the ability to provide accurate quotesDiagnose and troubleshoot problems, give recommendations for repairs and make all critical engine repairs and adjustmentsTest and verify correct operation of all repairs and adjustmentsApply general failure analysis and procedures to determine proper diagnosisAccurate and timely service reports and time cards dailyPerform engine and component rebuild with limited supervisionValid driver's license required, Class A CDL is a PLUSPneumatic Trailer Experience a PLUSKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES• Basic computer skills• Demonstrated experience in general heavy truck repair for commercial fleet operations, including trailer repair, diesel engine system diagnostics and preventative maintenance for tractor mechanics preferred• Basic welding skills desired (such as Oxy/Acetylene, MIG, and ARC) would be a plus• Ability to diagnose and repair vehicle air-conditioning systems preferredWhile performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
