    Veterinary Teaching Hospital

    At the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital ( VTH ), we exist to educate the next generation of veterinarians by providing exceptional veterinary care and service to the community every day. This work unit exists to care for the basic needs of animals at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and to provide routine disinfection and service to all areas of the hospital, which serves as a teaching facility for veterinary students, as a medical facility for veterinary research, and as a public animal health clinic for exotic, large and small animals.

    Position Summary

    The purpose of the Diagnostic Imaging Technologist is to provide diagnostic support in the Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging Core within the Veterinary Health System. This position will enhance current personnel and operations by operating equipment to produce radiographic images (assisting in other modalities such as Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, or Standing CT), assisting with positioning, providing classroom and on-unit instruction, scheduling patients, maintaining patient records and managing equipment and supply inventories. This position will perform similar duties as the other Diagnostic Imaging Technicians.

    This position is expected to work 40 hours, Monday – Friday, business daytime hours. No nights/ weekends or holidays are expected. We can offer some flexibility.

    The employee in this position is designated as essential personnel and may be required to report to work during times of campus closures for weather or other events when the decision to close campus is made by CSU Central Administration.

    The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship of this position.

    A combination of signing bonus moving expenses available = $2,500 max for eligible and successful candidates

    Required Job Qualifications

    • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree in radiology, veterinary technician, or other applicable area of expertise.
    • One year of experience in applicable area of expertise
    • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship of this position.

    Preferred Job Qualifications

    • Small and Large animal experience preferred but not necessary
    • Credentialed in the State of Colorado

    Essential Duties

    Job Duty Category Perform Radiography and Procedures

    Duty/Responsibility

    • Responsible for positioning and performing diagnostic imaging procedures on large and small animal patients in radiology.
    • Organizes DVM students, clinicians, residents, or interns to prepare animals for radiography and to determine the best times and ways of radiographing the patient.
    • Responsible for assisting radiography procedures, and other modalities within the imaging core such as ultrasound, nuclear medicine, standing Equine CT.
    • Also responsible for positioning and performing diagnostic imaging procedures on Large Animals and Livestock.
    • These will take place at the Johnson Family Equine Hospital ( JFEH ) or Livestock building on south campus.
    • Tasks include paring and packing of hoofs, prepping areas of imaging, practicing radiation safety when possible, troubleshooting the best and easiest way to obtain images with minimal discomfort to the animal.

    Duty/Responsibility

    • Uses the/ PACS systems to monitor exams as scheduled and evaluate workflow.
    • Communicate and coordinate exams with referring clinicians and department, prioritizing to provide the most efficient use of equipment, personnel, and time while maintaining the highest possible patient care.
    • Provide guidance for other personnel involved (i.e., students, residents, interns, and visiting personnel).
    • Authorized to change patient images in the RIS by removing exemptions and placing correct images into new existing electronic medical records.
    • Assist with the creation or maintenance of teaching materials.
    • Assist with the creation or maintenance of research files and materials.

    • Will be expected to instruct students on safety, and small animal handling, positioning, and preparing animals.
    • Responsible for maintaining safe radiation practices in radiology and assisting with communicating these standards to other hospital personnel as required.

    Duty/Responsibility

    • Works as a team member within the Ultrasound department when a primary Ultrasound Technician is unavailable or when assistance is needed to hold animals.
    • Responsible for knowledge of patient positioning for all ultrasound exams;
      • organization of patients scheduled for Ultrasound scans;
      • and maintenance of supply inventory.

    • Provide supervision and training to third and fourth-year DVM students during the radiology rotation.
    • Training includes teaching in the Junior Practicum and daily clinical application.
