Diabetes Educator educates patients on the necessary lifestyle changes involved in a diabetes diagnosis, including nutrition, medication, physical activity and glucose testing. Collects patient data to monitor health status and proactively manage the patient's condition. Being a Diabetes Educator facilitates skill development and behavior modification so that the patient is able to successfully manage the disease. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent. Additionally, Diabetes Educator typically required to be a Certified Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Diabetes Educator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. To be a Diabetes Educator typically requires 2-4 years of related experience. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

    Avera is currently seeking RN – Diabetes Management Educator!

     

    Position Highlights:

    Job Summary

    The Diabetes Management Educator provides individual and group diabetes self-management education, conducts community and health professional education related to diabetes, and serves as a resource for the nursing staff relative to diabetes education and basic nursing care of the diabetes patient.

    Education and/or Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred.
    • Experience in diabetes inpatient care and/or diabetes education preferred.

    Licensure/Certification/Registration

    • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of South Dakota and/or meeting the requirements of Multi-state licensure required. 

    Work Schedule

    • Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, on-call one wknd/month; 80hrs/2wks

    Pay

    The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

    • $26.25 - $39.25 per hour
