Diabetes Educator educates patients on the necessary lifestyle changes involved in a diabetes diagnosis, including nutrition, medication, physical activity and glucose testing. Collects patient data to monitor health status and proactively manage the patient's condition. Being a Diabetes Educator facilitates skill development and behavior modification so that the patient is able to successfully manage the disease. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent. Additionally, Diabetes Educator typically required to be a Certified Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Diabetes Educator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. - Collaborates with nursing, interdisciplinary teams and community resources to define problems, develop

- Develops, implements and evaluates cost-effective educational programs for diabetic patients, their families and communities.
- Identifies specific needs for, and means to, enhance professional development and maintain clinical competency.
- Incorporates clinical research in clinical, educational and consultative roles to provide a scientific basis for professional nursing practice.
- Knowledge of glucose monitoring systems, insulin administration technology, pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatment of diabetes and complications.
- Promotes quality patient care by serving as a resource to care providers of patients with diabetes
- Provides and role models indirect care of diabetic patients.
- Teaches patients, families and staff in formal and informal settings about the care needs of diabetic patients using appropriate methodology and strategies
Education Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Nursing from an accredited academic institution. (preferred)
- Nursing\RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure or
- CDCES - Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist required
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
