Required Education, Experience and Certification:
· Grade 3 Wisconsin Public Librarian Certification or
· 54 college semester credits including at least 27 in the liberal arts and sciences; supplemented by 12 semester credits approved by the Division in Public Library Administration. (Basic public library administration course must be completed by the end of the first year and at least one of the other courses each subsequent year not to exceed 4 years.)
Job Description: Library Director
Note: this job has the potential to move to a 40/hr per week job, beginning in 2025.
Under the direct supervision of the public library board of trustees, the library director is responsible for the operations of the library and the development and implementation of its services including:
Administrative:
· Assisting the board with strategic planning and policy development, and managing all library resources, including human resources
· Hiring and supervising all assistants, substitutes, and volunteers who work in the library.
· Prepare monthly schedule for employees and substitutes and volunteers.
· Receive and allocate library funds according to established guidelines and maintain accurate and up-to-date records showing the status of library finances Note: for the Eleanor Ellis Public Library, the treasurer presents a current financial report to the Library Board of Trustees.
· Stay within the frame of compliancy set in our Northern Waters Library System annual contract.
· Attend the online required monthly meetings of the Northern Waters Library Consortium as well as monthly Town Board meetings as needed.
· Prepare monthly Director Reports for both the Town and Library Boards, as needed for board meetings.
· Prepare state annual report for review and approval by the library board
· Conduct ongoing evaluations of existing library programs, services, policies, and procedures, and submit recommendations for improvements to the library board.
Day to Day Operations:
· Rotate with assistant and volunteers to work the front desk and interlibrary loan shipments and delivery
· Collection Development - Select or direct the selection of materials for all media and all age groups, based on the library’s approved collection development policy
· Process library materials, as well as develop and maintain a regular weeding schedule
· Provide friendly and efficient direct assistance to users checking out materials, requesting directional or community information, or seeking materials or information on specific topics
· Prepare news submissions to the media to announce ongoing, new or special services and events that spotlight the library as well as maintain website and other social media sites.
· Prepare grant applications, when grant opportunities are offered, in order to supplement local funding of library operations and development
· designing and implementing services and programs for users of all ages along with assistance from the Youth Services Coordinator
Programs/Services/Community:
Develop and execute an array of service programming to address the various needs of users and to make the library more accessible to all. Includes but not limited to:
· Tours of the library for school, daycare, and homeschooling groups
· Presentations to local organizations or groups on the benefits offered by the library
· Children’s programming such as Storytime Sessions for small children, Preschool Storytime at the school daycare, as well as supporting the Summer Reading Program each year.
· Adult programming such as Writer’s Workshop and Book Discussion sessions and Library use educational classes
· Program outreach to our community and in collaboration of other town groups or clubs, such as Scarecrow Fest, Maple Fest, EMS Outreach, July 4th parade and celebration, etc.
