Dental Hygienist under the direct supervision of a dentist, cleans calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums using dental instruments. Performs routine examination and assessment of dental health. Being a Dental Hygienist feels lymph nodes under patient's chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer. Feels and visually examines gums for sores and signs of disease. Additionally, Dental Hygienist provides instruction, guidance, and coaching to patients about methods to improve dental health. May take Radiographs or x-rays. Typically requires an associate degree in dental hygiene. Meets licensing requirements as a Dental Hygienist for the state. Radiography/x-ray certification per state guidelines. Basic Life Support certification (BLS.) Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Dental Hygienist independently performs a wide range of complex duties under general guidance from supervisors. Has gained full proficiency in a broad range of activities related to the job.     Hours/Shift: Full-Time (Mon-Thurs, 7:30 am-5:00 pm) Friday schedule varies per practice.

    The Role

    We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Dental Hygienist to join our team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for performing dental hygiene treatments and providing oral health education to our patients. You will utilize your knowledge and expertise to examine patients' teeth and gums, perform deep cleanings, take X-rays, and administer fluoride treatments. Your primary goal will be to help patients achieve and maintain excellent oral health.

    Responsibilities

    • Conduct thorough oral examinations of patients' teeth and gums to identify any oral health issues
    • Clean and polish patients' teeth to remove plaque and calculus, focusing on areas that are difficult to reach during regular brushing
    • Take and develop dental X-rays to assist in diagnosing dental conditions and determine the appropriate treatment plans
    • Apply sealants, fluoride, and other preventive treatments to protect patients' teeth
    • Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and provide personalized recommendations for maintaining optimal dental health
    • Identify and educate patients on periodontal disease risk factors, and develop customized treatment plans
    • Assist the dentist during dental procedures, ensuring the patient's comfort and helping with any necessary tools or equipment
    • Maintain accurate patient records and treatment notes
    • Stay up-to-date with advances in dental hygiene techniques and tools through continuous education and professional development

    Required Skills And Qualifications

    • Valid Dental Hygienist license in the state of South Dakota
    • Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program
    • Driven attitude to succeed!
    • Excellent knowledge of dental hygiene procedures, tools, and equipment
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to perform thorough oral examinations
    • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport with patients
