Dean of Mathematics manages administrative functions of the college of mathematics. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Mathematics leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Mathematics requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Mathematics manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Mathematics typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Summary
    To provide high quality, learner-centered instruction for students enrolled in Mathematics coursework at any KCKCC location while supporting the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. This is a POOL position. Application materials for this adjunct position accepted on an on-going basis due to increasing demand for courses in this subject area.


    Position Description

    • Conduct all class sessions according to schedule
    • Provide instruction, activities, assignments, and assessments to adequately cover all Student Learning Objectives for the specific course(s) taught
    • Use teaching methods that emphasize application, cooperation and collaboration and engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become independent learners with higher-order thinking skills
    • Organize and explain content using methods which are appropriate to students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experience
    • Assign and provide feedback for in- and out-of-class work; monitor student progress
    • Perform adequate assessment and analysis of assessment according to college requirements
    • Reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of one's own pedagogy
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    • Ability to arrive on time and be ready to teach course(s) during scheduled times
    • Ability to prepare curricular materials to convey learning objectives to students
    • Ability to effectively utilize Blackboard for posting assignments, assessing students, performances, and grading
    • Ability to think critically and solve problems independently
    • Ability to be organized and work on multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Ability to work with a diverse student, staff, and faculty population
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • A bachelor’s degree is required as a minimum for developmental mathematics classes
    • Master’s degree in Mathematics or a Master's degree in a related field with 18 credit hours of graduate Mathematics coursework is required for college-level mathematics classes
    • Teaching experience with a diverse population

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college
    • Experience with using MyMathLab (MML) program
    • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard
    • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy

    Work Schedule
