- Director, Government Affairs/Business Development Summary: The Director, Government Affairs/Business Development is responsible for working with DRC’s Government Affairs/Business Development team to track and monitor education-related legislation and policy initiatives. The Director will identify and communicate changes and implications to DRC program staff and others at DRC. Essential Position Responsibilities: Follow education policy and legislation. Stay abreast of all issues relating to educational assessment and curriculum / instruction. Attend and report on assessment and curriculum / instruction related meetings and conferences. Represent DRC at local and national education meetings and events as needed. Contribute as an integral member of DRC’s management team. Assist with other Special Projects or teams at DRC as needed. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of related experience. Demonstrated ability to work successfully at both a strategic and tactical level with senior management. Strong project management, analysis and research skills. Exemplary communication skills, oral and written, and outstanding relationship building skills Ability to understand and interpret the political environment Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels of the organization Ability to see the big picture and understand diverse points of view in order to build alliances and to see and understand DRC’s customer Some travel required Strong track record of legislative experience at the state level Proven knowledge of and experience with the legislative process Understanding of Departments of Education Familiarity with education policy issues is a plus Essential Job Requirements: Report to work promptly when scheduled Be able to work under supervision and accept feedback Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite Relate effectively and work respectfully with diverse work groups Ability to consistently perform well during times of increased work load Set and meet deadlines Manage multiple job functions simultaneously Other duties as needed Reporting to this position: No direct reports Physical Requirements: Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 8 hour periods of time Ability to look at a computer monitor, utilize a keyboard and/or mouse for up to 8 hours per day Ability to lift up to 20 pounds as necessary DRC retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.
