Data Center Director directs and optimizes all operations of a data center facility to ensure data performance, availability, and security. Designs operating procedures and policies for installing, configuring, and maintaining servers, networks, and storage systems within a data center to maximize operational efficiency. Being a Data Center Director monitors environmental conditions to ensure optimal temperature, humidity, and power supply to prevent downtime and protect hardware from damage. Ensures timely, accurate, and consistent technical infrastructure service and presentation to internal and external clients. Additionally, Data Center Director coordinates with outside teams to identify and implement new systems to support existing and future business needs. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Data Center Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Data Center Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Job Description

    Reporting directly to Fidelity Real Estate Company’s (FREC) Global Head of Engineering, you’ll be responsible for delivering 100% uptime by leading a team of operating engineers responsible for the day-to-day operation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems at the data center. You’ll work closely with IT and Security teams to maintain a reliable infrastructure with 100% availability!

    Please note that this is a Facilities (MEP focused) role, not an IT role.

    The Expertise And Skills You Bring

    • 10 years of leadership experience with Mission-Critical Facilities (MEP) Engineering & Operations.
    • Knowledge of Data Center Industry Standards, Best Practices and Uptime Tier Levels.
    • Experience managing MEP infrastructure design, testing, and commissioning.
    • Experience developing standards, guidelines, and processes to maintain high uptime in mission critical facilities
    • Experience managing engineering service delivery through in-house staff and contractors.
    • Track record of implementing continuous improvement initiatives to improve energy efficiency and uptime.
    • BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience in relevant roles.
    • Data Center certifications like CDCPM, CDCEP, CDCDP a plus.
    • PE or MBA a plus.
    • Strong knowledge of MEP/FP infrastructure design, commissioning, and operations.
    • Ability to optimize engineering systems without sacrificing safety, reliability, and efficiency.
    • Ability to concisely present technical concepts to non-technical audience.
    • Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to prepare business cases and budgets.
    • Ability to develop life-cycle strategies for engineering systems in a thoughtful manner.
    • Excellent vendor and contract management skills to ensure fast response and cost control.
    • Ability to work productively in a high-pressure environment with tight deadlines and during emergencies.
    • Ability to mentor and develop your team into a well-rounded engineering organization.
    • Demonstrated people management skills; specifically in the areas of team leadership, morale, and development to foster positive outcomes and achieve established landmarks.
    • Ability to act as an effective teammate or mutual contributor in order to meet common goals or achieve desired outcomes.


    The Value You Deliver

    • Ensure that all activities necessary to maintain 100% uptime is performed as planned, while ensuring health & safety, security, and compliance.
    • Oversee the maintenance of Fidelity's solar farms within North Carolina
    • Proactively support the client (IT) needs in a flexible and timely manner. Work collaboratively with multi-functional teams to implement strategies that support the company’s vision.
    • Respond to and provide technical support to resolve abnormal operational incidents and determine root causes of failure.
    • Track and publish data on downtime-causing incidents or near-misses. Develop, communicate, and implement strategies to prevent recurrence of failures. Collaborate with other sites to share lessons learned.
    • Act as the primary contact for auditors and regulators; Ensure 100% compliance with all internal and external audit requirements.
    • Develop operating budget and capital plan. Anticipate future needs for technology and equipment replacement to develop a thoughtful and cost-effective strategy.
    • Provide program management support for national/global initiatives as assigned. Ensure consistency in design and implementation across the portfolio.
    • Develop arguments for asset preservation and energy upgrades. Present technical topics to a non-technical audience.
    • Develop and mentor team members to achieve professional growth. Identify training and development needs, possible career paths for mobility and encourage continuous learning.
