Cost Accounting Manager ensures that costs for the company's products and services are allocated according to corporate procedures and in compliance financial accounting standards. Oversees the cost control systems, manages and interprets cost audits, and prepares cost accounting reports for presentation to top management. Being a Cost Accounting Manager gathers historical cost data (materials, labor, depreciation, operating expenses, etc.), to compare budgets with actual expenses. Manages the cost accounting staff to complete projects. Additionally, Cost Accounting Manager requires a bachelor's degree or its equivalent. Typically reports to a Director. The Cost Accounting Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met, adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. Essential Position Responsibilities
Enters production units and raw materials usage in the system. Collects, reviews, and verifies shop floor documents. Calculates production units and raw material usage and enters into the ERP system. Collaborates with production staff and IS to resolve discrepancies. Occasionally works to improve and expedite processes. Elevates unresolved issues to manager for further direction or support.
Prepares variance analysis reports. For each production plan, calculate cost variance on all formula changes between standard and actual consumption. Investigates variances in collaboration with production staff. Prepares weekly and monthly production costing variance reports for distribution to Management. Ensures timely submission, accuracy, and validity of cost variances.
Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends and sometimes coordinates appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives: This position description is intended to guide the activities of the Accounting Costing Administrator and is not intended to limit the thinking and creativity of the person to the work of this function nor is it intended that this describe all the work that may be required of the person in this position.
Physical Activities: Enters and locates information on a computer. Visually verifies information, often in small print. Communicates with employees via telephone, in person, and/or electronic mail.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): As required by visiting facility.
Travel: May travel occasionally between locations during shifts primarily for training purposes.
Technical Experience: Minimum 1 year accounting experience. General knowledge of accounting principles required. Must be proficient with personal computers, 10-key, and MS Office suite, especially Excel. Experience with ERP software is a plus. Must be able to work independently, be detail oriented and organized while working with a high degree of accuracy.
Industry Experience: Preference for manufacturing or food processing organization.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
