    Compensation: $78,847 - $90,674 DOE

    Job Summary
    The Director of Development for Naropa University identifies, engages, cultivates, solicits, and stewards current and prospective donors in expanding their financial support of the work of Naropa University. This position is responsible for meeting an annual revenue target by working with an assigned portfolio of donors and prospects to advance the mission of the organization and assist donors in creating meaning in their lives through giving to Naropa University. As required, the Director, serves as an operational resource to less experienced team members to ensure consistent and effective implementation of donor development plans. The Director of Development also provides support with events and back-office duties as necessary.

    This position will often be able to work remotely, but does require some onsite work as well.

    Job Duties & Responsibilities

    • Develops and executes ongoing strategy for qualifying donors to ensure retention, growth of donor contributions as well as recapture from previous donors.
    • Works collaboratively with other departments and partners to create customized solicitation strategies matching the objectives of the organization and interests of the donor/prospect.
    • Manages an assigned portfolio of donors and prospects with intent to form deep relationships.
    • Responsible for minimum annual fundraising goal tied to portfolio, including both renewable gifts and new incremental revenue.
    • Develops donor management plans for entire portfolio resulting in strategic, knowledgeable and complex asks.
    • Personally solicits assigned donor portfolio including preparation of personalized materials.
    • Implements programs/activities to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors at the $1,000 level or higher, with an emphasis on maximizing revenue for Naropa University.
    • Works with Board members and other leadership volunteers to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward appropriate donors.
    • Identifies potential planned giving prospects among assigned donors and develops strategies to meet the needs of the donor. Maintains current donor records in Raiser’s Edge NXT following donor contacts.
    • Develops ongoing relationships with major donors for the benefits of Naropa University.
    • Accountable for cultivating relationships for individual fundraising, organizational fundraising or both as outlined below:
    a)Individuals: Cultivates relationships with individual donors personally and by supporting volunteer leaders in peer-to-peer outreach, (if appropriate).
    b)Organizations: Cultivates, solicits and stewards support from corporations and foundations to meet annual fundraising goals.
    c)This includes assisting corporations in achieving their goals in strengthening their brand, marketing, and employee engagement by being proficient at clearly articulating Naropa’ s mission and programs, listening to corporations’ needs and aligning programs to their interests, preparing grant proposals (supported by the contract grant writer), and engaging foundation staff and foundation board members to cultivate and solicit support for Naropa University.
    • This role carries out any additional assignments required to fulfill the mission of Naropa University.     Educational requirement:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Liberal Arts, Cultural Studies, Business Administration, Non-Profit Management or a related field. Advanced degree highly desirable.

    Minimum length of prior applicable professional experience required:

    • Minimum of five years of fundraising and/or sales experience for a non-profit organization or related experience, with demonstrated success with securing gifts of $50K.
    • Proven experience in developing strategies for donor retention, growth and recapture, as well as proven success with complex requests.
    • Ability to relate well and work effectively with multiple constituencies, audiences (and culturally diverse communities.
    • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
    • Working knowledge of systems: Microsoft 365 suite of applications preferred and fundraising database systems (e.g. Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce.com).
    • A team player committed to developing and working within a collaborative environment and to ensuring the highest customer service orientation.
    • Requires frequent air and road travel, amount will vary depending upon the portfolio; may require some work during non-standard hours, sitting for long periods of time and driving a vehicle.
    • Must have a current valid driver’s license and good driving record.

    Supervision Received

    Administrative Supervision: The supervisor sets the overall objectives and resources available. Supervisor and employee, in consultation, develop deadlines, projects, and work to be done. The employee keeps the supervisor informed of progress, potentially controversial matters, or far-reaching implications.

    Naropa’s health and welfare benefits include the following: medical, dental, vision, FSA, HSA, employer-paid short-term and long-term disability, employer-paid life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment, an employer-sponsored pre-tax retirement savings plan, which includes up to 2.5% employer matching, and a variety of voluntary, employee-paid supplemental insurance plans.
    A comprehensive benefits package is available to full-time employees who work a minimum of 30 hours each week.
