Farm Talk Newspaper is hiring for an editor to oversee and manage the day-to day agricultural news production of its weekly agricultural news publication on-site in Parsons, Kansas. This management opportunity requires management of the editorial staff, planning, writing-intensive with skills in photography, graphic design and social media management.
Essential Functions:
· Ability to report and write weekly technical news, feature and human-interest stories on a consistent, professional and accurate basis.
· Ability to edit news copy.
· Knowledgeable about several aspects of the agricultural industry including but not limited to crops, livestock and food systems.
· Photography skills for digital capture of farm families, livestock and livelihood
· Must be a personable, positive, friendly and skilled communicator
· Working knowledge and familiarity with AP-style writing.
· Adobe InDesign experience
· Manage a staff, plan for upcoming news events and projects.
· Willingness to learn and remain calm under pressure.
· Consistent and sound social media management across all platforms with a goal of engagement and retention of ag audiences
· Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop skills
· Non-linear video editing skills and podcast knowledge are a plus
· Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Requirements:
Bachelors in agricultural communications, ag journalism or related field preferred.
Some weekends/evenings will be required.
About the position:
This will be a salaried position with a quarterly profit bonus with full benefits. A company vehicle will also be provided.
Work Environment: On-site in Parsons, Kansas with some possible remote work.
