    The Director of Communications manages all programs and activities related to communication at Newcomb Institute. They take lead responsibility for developing the Newcomb Institute communications, including all Newcomb Institute (NI) publications, marketing, public relations and media promotion. They work closely with the Tulane University Communications and Marketing team in managing external media engagements. The Director of Commumications manages a Communications Specialist focused on social and digital media and development of copy and the Web Specialist focused on graphic design and website development. The Director of Communications is responsible for directing Newcomb Institute digital and print media, social media accounts, website, and branding to actively promote Newcomb Institute to internal and external communities, the general press, the higher education community, and the gender equity research community. They collaborate closely with the Executive Director to ensure Newcomb Institute’s research profile is elevated locally, nationally, and globally.

    As a leading gender equity institute and academic center that is preparing the next generation of gender equity scholars and leaders, we are looking for a candidate who can raise Newcomb Institute’s profile on campus, in the community, and globally. A background in communications in a higher education context is ideal.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

    • Expertise in research marketing and communication.
    • Expertise in crafting communications strategies and messaging targeting different constituencies, including students, faculty, staff, alumnae, and community members.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Excellent relationship-building skills.
    • Creativity and entrepreneurial skills
    • Follow-through ability and attention to accuracy and detail
    • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
    • Strong copywriting and copyediting skills for clear, compelling, and brand-aligned messaging
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Canva
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

    Required Education And/or Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field
    • At least five years of experience working in communications including digital media, social media, public relations, journalism, or marketing.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Background in digital marketing in social science and gender equity focused research or advocacy or in a higher education context
    • Interest in gender equity issues, reproductive health and rights, gender-based violence, and feminist civic and community engagement
    • Project management platform experience (e.g., Asana)
    • Master’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field
