Clinical Outcomes Director directs in-depth analysis of clinical outcomes data to develop clinical process improvement initiatives. Oversees and leads staff who gather data on performance metrics and facilitates the review of clinical program effectiveness. Being a Clinical Outcomes Director creates, defines, and implements performance metrics to review program effectiveness. Evaluates patient data to ensure that care is provided in accordance with clinical guidelines and organizational standards. Additionally, Clinical Outcomes Director identifies opportunities and provides recommendations to improve program delivery, patient outcomes, and operational efficiency. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing or healthcare related area. May require a Registered Nurse (RN) license. Typically reports to senior management. The Clinical Outcomes Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     Primary Purpose/Overview

    • The Clinical Director provides direct supervision, oversight, and training/development to the clinical team/department; oversees quality of treatment for all students; conducts clinical intake and level of care (LOC) reviews on applications to assess clinical appropriateness; oversees processes including clinical utilization review, medical records, continuous quality improvement; and clinical crisis response.
    • The Clinical Director also performs the duties of a primary therapist and/or provides direct-service support to therapists as indicated


    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Know and respond to PQ philosophy, policies, procedures, and Sustainable Growth model. Maintain current and accurate policy and procedure manuals to include the Clinical Manual, Caregiver Manual, and clinically-related CARF policies and procedures
    • Develop/promote Integrative Clinical Practice model agency-wide and oversee quality of treatment for all students. This is accomplished through oversight of the clinical team and participation in department head and director meetings, staff training, and agency-wide quality improvement activities; audits/documentation review; and ongoing review/management of critical incidents, quality indicators, safety plans and clinical alerts
    • Review applications for safety/risk management, clinical appropriateness and therapist match and conduct timely clinical review, to include contacts with referring/collateral professionals and admissions team as indicated. Participate in admissions/outreach calls. Oversee on-call schedule for clinical intake process and provide necessary support to clinical reviewers
    • Provide regularly-scheduled, direct supervision, and performance reviews for assigned supervisees and interns consistent with organizational mission, vision, and values. Provide experiential training and role modeling by sharing caseload with clinicians-in-training and/or attending sessions and phone calls with supervisees when additional oversight and support are needed. Communicate relevant personnel matters with supervisors and Human Resources Department in a timely manner.
    • Coordinate with the clinical leadership team to prioritize initiatives and to provide weekly clinical meetings to include policy and procedural updates, case staffing, group supervision, and to ensure ongoing communication with the clinical team and between the clinical team and other departments
    • Maintain orientation, training and professional development activities for the Clinical Department.
    • Provide exceptional and responsive customer service to all referral sources, students, family members, and other stakeholders. Maintain boundaries and flexibility in interactions. Field complaints in a timely and professional manner, and communicate concerns to supervisor, co-workers and clinical team as indicated
    • Coordinate with the outreach department to conduct outreach activities with referring professionals including visits, professional presentations, conferences, and travel; provide planning and oversight to the clinical department for outreach and marketing.
    • Provide training, oversight, and direct management of utilization review (UR) process to include knowledge and implementation of regulations pertaining to LOC criteria and UR, insurance reimbursements, training and coordination with therapists, and communication with insurance companies, other stakeholders, and admissions and finance departments to ensure timely and effective UR.
    • Collaborate with other departments on special projects such as research and development, training initiatives, NMT certification, CARF accreditation, COGNIA and other quality improvement initiatives
    • Respond to critical incidents immediately, provide clinical directives, risk assessment and/or crisis intervention services as indicated, and ensure timely and accurate reporting of incidents in accordance with PQ policy. Review incidents and patterns of incidents with the executive team for risk management and quality improvement purposes
    • Serve as Primary or Support Therapist and provide coverage for therapists as indicated by program and student need


    Skills/Qualifications

    • Doctoral degree (preferred) or Masters in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, Psychology or related mental health field, and Hawaii license to provide psychotherapy at the independent level. Experienced therapist with adolescents and their families with three (3) years experience in clinical supervision/administration
    • Ability to provide quality clinical supervision, training and clinical decision making with collaborative style
    • Ability to facilitate groups, conduct training, evaluate programming, and command the confidence and respect of families in distress
    • Ability to organize, plan and implement programming effectively
    • Ability to work independently
    • Ability to treat all residents and coworkers with dignity and respect
    • Ability to adhere to confidentiality policies
    • Ability to be a team player and to form mutually respectful relationships with all stakeholders


    Clearance Requirements

    • Must pass prehire and periodic background checks
    • Drug screen clearance required
    • Pre-employment physical and 2-step TB clearance required; annual infectious disease clearance required thereafter
    • Maintain current CPR, First Aid, and CPI certification
    • Must maintain active driver's license and proof of personal auto insurance
