Job Summary
The Claims Supervisor is responsible for the successful daily operations of the Claims Department. They manage one direct report and ensure consistency and accuracy of processed claims. The supervisor also performs customer service duties by attending to assigned claims alongside their team on a daily basis. This position is located in our Hudson, MA office and services clients in a busy, vibrant environment via in-person, phone and email. The work hours are M-TH 8am-4:30pm; F 8am-4pm.
Responsibilities- Ensure high levels of claims efficiency and customer satisfaction through continuous process improvement efforts, including regular monitoring of activities and backlog.
- Oversee the claims department function and staff to ensure prompt and fair settlement of all claims. Escalate challenging situations to ownership when appropriate.
- Supervise day to day activities of staff and conduct annual performance evaluations.
- Responsible for the coaching, performance and development of staff to maximize contributions.
- Keep staff up to date on relevant insurance regulations, coverages and company procedures.
- Interact with and maintain positive working relationships with company marketing representatives.
- Process initial claim reports for personal and business/commercial lines. Advise clients on coverage and procedural steps in settling the claim. Assist third parties by reporting claims and/or providing claims information.
- Maintain complete and accurate electronic file information within the agency database (EPIC) on all claims reports, activity, payments and conversations. Report claims to appropriate carriers.
- Review each account for coverage adequacy and accurate processing. Recommend appropriate coverage to client. Refer client to appropriate Account Manager for changes or additions to coverage.
- Conduct claim satisfaction survey. Send questionnaire surveys when claims are closed. When surveys are received, review, analyze and escalate to management, when appropriate. Maintain accurate survey records that are easily accessible for review.
- Deal promptly and with full integrity with all carrier claims personnel, responding to any request.
- Process incoming questionnaire survey information and responds promptly and appropriately.
- Participate on beeper rotation approximately every five weeks to provide 24/7 claims customer service after hours.
Knowledge & Skills Desired:- Thorough understanding of the claims process and the ability to think strategically to continually implement process improvement initiatives.
- Passionate customer service skills and the ability to empathize with claimants and customers
- Proven problem-solving skills
- In-depth knowledge of insurance products and usage
- Strong knowledge of industry practices, standards, coverages, and concepts and ability to apply them to the job utilizing analytical skills
- Excellent computer skills with working knowledge of agency management software and Microsoft 365
- Must possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Must have the ability to handle multiple and changing priorities and a moderate to heavy daily workload in a fast-paced environment
- Must possess a solid work ethic, strong attention to detail, and be a team player
High school diploma or equivalent required. Property & Casualty Insurance license required. Minimum of 5 or more years of claims experience, including 3 years as a supervisor. Working knowledge of EPIC agency management system desired. Bilingual ability is considered a strong plus, but not required.
