    General Function

    In alignment with CIRI’s mission and values, and policies, this is a one-year position funded through CIRI’s Yah (Grow) program, focused on providing CIRI Shareholders and Descendants professional growth and executive-level development. The first year of the program will consist of direct employment with CIRI. Beyond the first year, CIRI will work with program participants and the CIRI family of companies on placement for the next phase of the program. The Chief of Staff, Yah (Grow) program will receive exposure to and learn various executive-level leadership skills, learn about CIRI’s business lines, strategy and ANCSA / mission critical programs and benefits. The Chief of Staff, Yah (Grow) program will provide executive-level support to the executive leadership team, serves as a liaison between internal and external contacts to the executive leadership team, and oversees special projects. Additionally, this position will represent CIRI at business, community and Shareholder meetings and events. Must value innovation, creativity, and strategic thinking and working in a fast-paced environment.

    Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities)

    • Serve as a bridge for communication between the executive leadership team and internal CIRI departments, demonstrating the leadership to maintain credibility, trust and support with CIRI staff and leadership.
    • Work closely with the executive leadership team, manages special projects that potentially impact the organization.
    • Participate as an adjunct member of the executive leadership team and schedules and attends meetings.
    • Ensure the executive leadership team is well informed of upcoming commitments and follows up to help prepare appropriately.
    • Prioritize conflicting needs and handles matters expeditiously and proactively on issues raised by the executive leadership team, including those of a confidential or sensitive nature.
    • Draft correspondence and various reports as needed that help the executive leadership team lead effectively.
    • Work with the communications team to coordinate strategic communications with diverse audiences regarding the executive leadership team’s outreach efforts and activities.
    • Follow up on contacts made by the executive leadership team and leads efforts to build and maintain strategic relationships within CIRI, CIRI’s affiliated entities, current and potential business partners, and the community.
    • Support education efforts related to the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) and CIRI’s history and unique model of self-determination.
    • Build executive department budget and approves spending and budget allocations.
    • Participate in learning opportunities to enhance skills.
    • Travel frequently with the executive leadership team.
    • Perform other duties as appropriate and as assigned.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

    • Understand CIRI’s mission, vision and strategic focus areas, along with CIRI’s values, and incorporate knowledge into daily activities.
    • Knowledge and experience with the SBA 8(a) program, history and compliance requirements preferred.
    • Knowledge and experience with mergers and acquisitions preferred.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff, affiliated-company employees as well as outside business associates, exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others.
    • Ability to make decisions that will involve thinking strategically, problem-solving, and exercising good judgment.
    • Ability to work independently as well as a team with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare and submit comprehensive reports.
    • Excellent financial management skills, ability to develop and manage department budget.
    • Superior organizational and follow-up skills and detail oriented.
    • Ability to research, organize and analyze technical information with particular attention to accuracy and detail.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information and respond effectively and sensitively to questions from managers, staff and the public.
    • Proficient using Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and industry-standard computer software and and database.
    • Strong leadership, supervisory, management and mentoring skills.
    • High degree of sensitivity regarding confidential information.
    • Ability to travel by vehicle and commercial or small aircraft.

    Physical Abilities

    • Sufficient fine motor skills for use of computers and calculators with an ability to withstand repetitive keyboarding for extended periods.
    • Visual and communication ability adequate to perform the essential functions of the job.
    • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and fly by commercial or small aircraft.
    • Ability to kneel, bend and twist at the waist on an occasional basis.
    • Ability to reach below shoulder height with regular frequency (desk position) and at or above shoulder height on occasion.
    • Ability to push, pull, carry and lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
    • Master’s degree preferred.
    • Seven or more years of experience in business, finance or related field.
    • Two years of supervisory experience.
    • Ability to travel 50% of time.
    • Work experience that illustrates a knowledge of ANCSA and/or Alaska Native cultures preferred.
    • Must be a CIRI Shareholder and/or Descendant.
    • Ability to pass a background and driving record.
