Position Overview
Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) designs and leads vision, long term strategy, and execution of the company’s product development, supply chain, operations, and sales and distribution efforts across all channels, representing a family of distinct but unified, premium hunting/outdoors consumer brands. The CCO directs and oversees the creation and manufacturing of products across the MeatEater, Inc. portfolio, delivering value to customers and partners, with responsibility for revenue generation and margin achievement across wholesale, ecommerce, and owned & operated retail channels. The CCO will oversee demand stimulation enabled by MeatEater’s marketing organization, and in partnership with the company’s content leadership, positioning our MeatEater, Inc. owned & operated brands (MeatEater branded products, First Lite, Phelps Game Calls, FHF Gear, and Dave Smith Decoys) for success in a competitive market. Reporting to the CCO are SVP of ecommerce, SVP of operations, SVP of marketing, VP of First Lite product, brand leaders, and channel leaders.
Accountabilities
Business
- Manage P&L accountable for wholesale, ecommerce, and owned & operated retail store revenue across product brand family
- Lead ‘go to market’ planning, process, and presentation, coordinated across leadership of all brands
- Accountable for sales forecasting across all channels, ensuring the alignment of marketing, promotional, and distribution efforts with production schedules that adhere to a multi-year product planning process
- Manage and grow key wholesale channel partner relations on behalf of all brands
- Lead strategy, business planning, and business development for new brand and product initiatives that extend the MeatEater brand into new categories and retail channels
- Partner with CFO to align sourcing, manufacturing, purchasing, distribution, logistics plans to deliver products on time within desired margin targets
Strategy
- Partner with CEO, CFO, and senior team to lead and execute 3-year strategic planning process
- Work with SVP of marketing to bring to market products, expressing brand objectives and product features, in collaboration with channel partners
- Demonstrate exceptional strategic and financial acumen in business decisions, reflective of the company’s long-term plan
- Inspire and lead First Lite, FHF Gear, MeatEater, Phelps Game Calls, Dave Smith Decoys (DSD) brand and product management (in partnership with the founders of Phelps, FHF, and DSD) to design and execute product design, development, and manufacturing plans that achieve long term customer and revenue growth objectives
Product & Operations
- Oversee operations and profitable growth of retail locations in Bozeman, MT and Hailey, ID, planning or expansion to locations beyond
- Support ecommerce and marketing teams in creation of product collateral and visual language
- Support ecommerce and wholesale teams with packaging and detailed product materials
- Support product and operations to ensure manufacturing quality and negotiated terms with key suppliers
- Demonstrate a continuous improvement & growth mindset in product design, development, sourcing, operations, and manufacturing while driving discipline through the organization
- Lead execution of consumer and trade show events for brand building, community building, partner development, and revenue generation
- Oversee product and production portions of NetSuite; partner with IT department to optimize product, manufacturing, and wholesale tech-stacks
Leadership
- Recruit, retain, inspire, lead, and motivate team of multifunctional product, ecommerce, operations, sales, and distribution professionals while perpetuating a collaborative ‘one team’ culture across the organization
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with peers across brands working in a constructive, clear, and collegial manner
- Lead and inspire ‘followership’ in teams and staff at all levels throughout the organization
- Provide clear direction and timely decision-making in a collaborative manner that builds trust
- Manage and delegate effectively, while demonstrating and modeling an ability to ‘dig in’ to get things done
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from accredited University
- 15 years leadership in product management, operations, and/or sales in a related industry
- Demonstrated acumen for driving P&L results in a product and brand driven business
- Experience in P&L accountability, ideally across a portfolio of multi-channel brands
- Successful in hiring, retaining, and mentoring talent from a broad range of disciplines
- Demonstrated leadership in wholesale partner relationships and management
- Ability to manage multiple projects, moving from short to long term, and micro to macro
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
- Strong interest in the outdoors required, with a preference for hunting experience
- Domestic and periodic international travel required
