This full-time position provides spiritual support and comfort for the residents of the communities, in coordination with each resident’s home congregation and in accordance with United Church of Christ Homes standards. Responsibilities include planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing programs that meet the individualized spiritual needs of residents; coordinating and conducting regularly scheduled spiritual services for residents; and maintaining a visitation program for all residents.
The chaplain will communicate a caring friendship with a tolerant attitude for multiple cultural traditions and a wide range of spiritual beliefs and offer encouragement and support to clergy and churches as they continue to minister to the needs of their members.
The chaplain will be available to offer comfort to the individual as well as the family. During difficult times, sensitivity and compassion are requisite for the spiritual support needed by all involved; the resident, family and staff.
Applicants must be an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ with a minimum of one year experience in pastoral ministry as well as one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education and relate well with a wide variety of people and possess the ability to assess the spiritual needs of residents without imposing on privacy, spiritual preferences, or the nursing responsibilities of staff. A specific interest in gerontology and orientation to health care practices and procedures is preferred.
