Overview
The Business Unit Controller is responsible for timely and accurate business unit financial reports and for the safeguarding of all company assets, including all bank accounts and other cash related accounts established for the business unit and projects, as well as all fixed asset and capital expenditures purchased for the business unit and projects. This role typically oversees a single business unit.
Responsibilities
- Confirm basic internal controls are in place and adequately maintained including proper segregation of duties in the performance of processes and procedures, as well as the proper accumulation and reporting of financial information
- Ensure all financial reporting/budgeting/forecasting, including start dates, completion dates, fee sales, labor sales, labor forecast, regional forecast, forecast ranges etc. are accurate prior to submission to corporate
- Certify each project forecast is properly setup per contract and accurate reporting from the CE system and Fee analysis is occurring
- Ensure non-reimbursable cost policy is adhered to and proper approvals are in place
- Make certain balance sheet accounts are properly analyzed each month and timely corrective action is taken when required
- Confirm capital expenditures are properly classified and region is adhering to the capital expenditure policy and procedures
- Adherence to the profit recognition rules with regard to monthly closing is required
- Implement a quality measurement with zero defects for the AR function with no delinquent receivables and no unbilled cost
- Ensure that the proper procedures are in place for review and approval of all invoices
- Timeliness and accuracy of time reporting is critical to accurate project forecasting as well as for properly paying employees
- Serve as administrative manager for the regional office with oversight of office leasing, leasehold improvements, ensure that established national accounts are utilized for travel, office supplies, office equipment, auto leasing and auto rental, records retention, technology equipment and cellular phone service
- Risk Management - provide due diligence with regard to identifying and reporting financial risks to the company
- Identify training needs with regard to project forecasting and work with the Operations Manager to provide the required training
- Manage high-performing team of Accounting Managers, Project Controllers, Project Accountants and Accounting Practitioners while ensuring full compliance of all Enterprise policies and procedures
- Serve as strategic business partner to all Department Heads, Operations Manager, Market Leaders and Business Leader

Qualifications
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
- BS degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field
- 10 years with CM or General Contractor organization
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Proficient in CMiC
- Full understanding of Gilbane DCAA labor rates, burdens and internal cost allocations
Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
For New York, NY this ranges from $199,700.00 - $250,000.00 plus benefits and retirement program.
