Building and Grounds Supervisor jobs in Arizona

Building and Grounds Supervisor supervises and trains building and grounds maintenance staff. Oversees landscaping activities, the maintenance of sidewalks and parking areas, and the removal of trash and snow. Being a Building and Grounds Supervisor maintains and monitors the operation of all utility systems such as heating, ventilating and air conditioning. May be responsible for the housekeeping staff. Additionally, Building and Grounds Supervisor, a level I supervisor is considered a working supervisor with little authority for personnel actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has no authority for staff actions. Generally has a minimum of 2 years experience as an individual contributor.     POSITION OBJECTIVE

    This is the entry level into the facilities services series.  Incumbents perform basic custodial, building or grounds maintenance, or general laborer work.  Duties might include: picking up trash and debris, mowing the grass; performing building maintenance such as changing light bulbs; vacuuming; cleaning and maintaining restrooms; and, performing general laborer type work such as moving furniture and room set-up.  Incumbents may also operate light equipment such as vehicles, tractors, and mowers.

     

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

    1. Performs manual labor activities, which includes: emptying trash cans; gathering materials and equipment; placing materials and/or equipment in proper locations; sweeping; setting up furniture and/or equipment; digging; cleaning; moving furnishings; painting; and/or, performing other related tasks. 
    2. Assists and responds to internal customer requests for assistance, inquiries, and/or other related requests; and responds to emergency situations as required to ensure the safety of students and staff.
    3. Maintains facilities, vehicles, and/or equipment utilized in daily activities; troubleshoots, maintains and performs simple repairs and preventive maintenance to equipment; monitors inventory of supplies.
    4. Notifies appropriate individuals of required facility and/or equipment repairs.
    5. Under direction, performs routine, minor repairs.
    6. Assists in performing routine grounds maintenance activities, including picking up trash, sweeping walkways, and weeding planter areas.
    7. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

     

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: (positions in this class typically require):

    High School Diploma or G.E.D.; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

     

    LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: (positions in this class typically require):

    Licensing Requirements:

    ·         Valid Arizona Driver’s License.

     

    KNOWLEDGE: (position requirements at entry):

    Knowledge of:

    ·         Customer service principles;

    ·         Inventory maintenance principles;

    ·         Safe work practices;

    ·         Methods and tools used in assigned area of responsibility;

    ·         Hand  and power tools;

    ·         Basic mathematical functions;

    ·         Applicable tools and equipment utilized in performing daily activities.

     

    SKILLS: (position requirements at entry):

    Skill in:

    ·         Providing customer service;

    ·         Operating tools and equipment in assigned area of responsibility;

    ·         Performing routine carpentry and groundskeeping tasks;

    ·         Comprehending written materials;

    ·         Performing routine preventative maintenance of tools, equipment, and vehicles;

    ·         Performing basic mathematical calculations;

    ·         Driving a motor vehicle;

    ·         Reading and understanding elementary blueprints, sketches, plans, diagrams and other                                  instructional/directive materials;

    ·         Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general                public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

     

    Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.

     

    Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and intense noises.
