Biostatistician conducts statistical studies to generate data and insights used to innovate, plan and support improved healthcare outcomes and processes. Prepares analysis plans to ensure the best statistical methods are developed and utilized. Being a Biostatistician writes specifications for files, consistency checks, tables, and calculations used to collect and analyzes data from a variety of sources. Interprets analyses and prepares exhibits for reports and presentations. Additionally, Biostatistician interfaces with non technical users to assist with data interpretation and understanding of results. Proficient with statistical computer applications like SAS and R. Typically requires a master's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Biostatistician occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Summary of Job Duties:
The Biostatistician II helps facilitate the Biostatistics Department’s efforts to enhance the quality of research conducted at UAMS by providing expert statistical guidance to UAMS investigators. With minimal guidance of Biostatistics Faculty or advanced research staff, the Biostatistician II commonly assists investigators with protocol and grant development; data preparation; introductory to intermediate-level data analysis and statistical programming using specialized software such as SAS, R or SPSS; and assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts, presentation materials and grant application materials, with scholarly contributions appropriately recognized. The Biostatistician II may also assist faculty in meeting the educational goals of the department.
The Biostatistician II will work with investigators throughout the UAMS campuses, generally in partnership with Department faculty members and/or more senior research staff, with an increased level of independence based on experience. Research areas may include clinical, basic, and/or population health sciences. The Biostatistician II will also maintain a close relationship with informaticists, database managers, and research administrators involved with specific studies.

Special knowledge, abilities and skills:
Expertise in a statistical programming language, preferably SAS and/or R.
