Automotive Mechanic performs maintenance and repairs on automobiles and light trucks. Performs major repairs like body work, chassis and engine repair, and disassembling and assembling components. Being an Automotive Mechanic also performs minor repairs and maintenance work such as replacing worn drive belts, hoses, and filters. Helps diagnose issues, uses electronic indicator systems to identify problems, and performs routine safety checks on brakes, suspension, exhaust, cooling, and other systems. Additionally, Automotive Mechanic adheres to appropriate safety procedures. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires a Certificate in Automotive Technology. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Automotive Mechanic works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.Performs mechanical work in the adjustment, maintenance and repair of gasoline or diesel engines and motorized equipment under the supervision of a higher level automotive mechanic, performs routine tasks involved in the major overhaul of engines; and performs other related duties as assigned.To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
Experience: TWO (2) YEARS of work experience as an apprentice or helper under a journey-level automotive mechanic; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Note: experience in repair of personal vehicles or hobby repair is NOT creditable.
Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
Lift and Carry: Some positions require the ability to lift and carry objects of varying weights, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Federal Criminal History Records Check: In accordance with Federal regulations, persons who are being considered for employment in positions which require unescorted access to secured areas at the airport, must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check. In order to be granted the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) clearance, prospective employees must not have been convicted, or found "not guilty by reason of insanity," of a disqualifying criminal offense within 10 years from the date of the application. Upon recommendation for hire, prospective employees will be required to successfully undergo the fingerprint-based criminal history record check and be found free of disqualifying convictions during the preceding ten years. The cost for the records check will be the applicant's responsibility.
