The HB Athletic Director will be a role model for girls with strong leadership, management, communication, and team building skills and possess the ability to engage effectively with students, parents and faculty/staff. The candidate must have exceptional initiative, judgment and problem-solving skills. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIESThe Director of Athletics at Hathaway Brown School is a pivotal figure, serving as a school-wide leader entrusted with the oversight and advancement of athletic programming and the physical education curriculum. This multifaceted role entails:

    • Championing the School's Mission and Blazer Covenant: Embodying and promoting the core values and principles of Hathaway Brown School and the Blazer Covenant in all aspects of athletic administration.
    • Leadership in Personnel Management: Taking charge of recruiting, onboarding, training, supervising, mentoring, evaluating, and providing continuous professional development opportunities for coaches and other members of the athletic team to foster a culture of excellence and growth. Helping align team’s responsibilities to achieve our vision and mission.
    • Stellar Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Maintaining open, transparent, and responsive communication channels with parents, ensuring exceptional customer service, and collaborating closely with the admissions and advancement offices to cultivate meaningful connections within the school community.
    • Create systems, expectations, and data plans: Create communication systems (newsletters), routines for regular meetings (coaches, Assistant ADs, and parents) and evaluation of data on a regular basis
    • Strategic Financial Management: Overseeing the Athletics budget with prudence and foresight, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support the diverse needs of athletic programs and initiatives.
    • Regulatory Compliance and Governance: Staying abreast of OHSAA and Ohio State Department of Education regulations, ensuring compliance with tournament requirements, and implementing protocols to uphold the highest standards of safety and fairness in athletic competitions.
    • Resource and Facility Management: Managing facilities, equipment, uniforms, and transportation logistics to optimize resources and provide athletes with the tools and environment necessary for success.
    • Organizational Excellence: Establishing and refining systems for communication, internal meetings, goal setting, and performance reviews, while aligning Athletic Department procedures, protocols, and policies to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Specialized Program Development: Leading initiatives to strengthen the interscholastic program by fostering vertical integration across all grade levels and seasons, implementing developmental athletic programming for younger students, and integrating athletics with key aspects of the school experience such as the college process, service learning, and wellness initiatives.
    • Leadership and Character Development: Elevating student-athlete leadership through tailored programming, with a particular focus on empowering team captains to fulfill their roles and responsibilities as ambassadors of sportsmanship, integrity, and excellence.
    • Adaptability and Additional Responsibilities: Undertaking any other duties and areas of focus as needed to support the holistic development and success of Hathaway Brown School's athletic program.

    • Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred.
    • 5-10 years experience in administration/leadership preferred
