TAMIU is a growing university of over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant bilingual and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. For more information, visit www.tamiu.edu. This is a full-time tenure-track position. Primary duties will include teaching of undergraduate and graduate Sociology courses. Generally, faculty have a 3-3 teaching load with opportunities for course releases. However, a reduced load (2-2 for the first 2 years) is provided to new hires to allow them to focus on performing/publishing research in Sociology or closely related areas. Duties also include service on departmental, university, and professional committees. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. Required Qualifications: The successful candidate must hold an earned doctorate in Sociology or a related field. ABDs will also be considered but must have earned a doctorate before appointment. All specializations will be considered but we are particularly interested in candidates with teaching/research interests in health, medicine, and society. We desire candidates who: demonstrate strong research skills, have a strong record of or potential for sustained publication in peer-reviewed journals (commensurate with experience), have the potential for or prior experience with seeking and/or securing external grant funding, and can teach in areas that complement or strengthen our undergraduate and graduate programs. Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.
