They are currently equipped with a Varian True Beam linear accelerator, an Elekta Flexitron HDR afterloader, a superficial x-ray unit, and a departmental CT simulation with 4D capabilities. The clinical scope of their practice is extensive, encompassing treatments and techniques such as VMAT, SRS, SBRT, DIBH, HDR brachytherapy, LDR brachytherapy, and radiopharmaceuticals.

    General Objectives

    • Engage in the design optimization, technical evaluation, and precise delivery of treatment plans.
    • Ensure radiation protection for patients and staff.
    • Design and implement all aspects of the quality management program involving external beam radiotherapy equipment and therapeutic radioisotopes.
    • Review and approve procedures followed by the radiation staff in delivering the prescribed dose.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    • Calibrate therapy equipment to ensure accurate radiation dose delivery.
    • Direct and/or perform the acceptance testing of new equipment and treatment devices.
    • Determine radiation dose distribution in patients undergoing treatment (i.e., computerized dosimetry planning or direct radiation measurement).
    • Lead the radiation oncology physics program, including technical direction for medical dosimetrists, therapy equipment service engineers, and other physics support staff.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • Master of Science or Doctoral Degree in Medical Physics.
    • ABR board certified or eligible in therapy physics.
    • Expected to obtain Colorado Registered Medical Physicist qualifications.
    • All experience levels considered, with a preference for ABR Board Certified and/or HDR experience.

    Experience:

    • 5 years post-degree clinical experience or completion of a post-degree clinical medical physics residency program under the preceptorship of a physicist certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or Radiological Physics.
