U
Imaging Physics Residency Program Director - Asst. or Assoc. Professor (CHS)
  • University of Wisconsin Madison
  • Madison, WI FULL_TIME
  • Job Summary:

The Department of Medical Physics is seeking a faculty member at the assistant or associate professor level to direct the CAMPEP accredited imaging physics residency program, as well as provide clinical medical physics support for radiological equipment. This faculty member will be expected to organize a state-of-the-art educational experience for the residents, lead residents and motivate faculty towards successful mentor/mentee relationships, and ensure that each resident graduates with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for board certification and a successful career in medical physics. The candidate will also work collaboratively with other medical physics and radiology faculty members and staff on new and existing projects that lead to scholarly activity. The department's graduate program and residency program coordinator will provide administrative support to the program director.

The clinical support responsibilities will include providing clinical physics services in medical imaging at various local healthcare facilities within the academic healthcare network. Responsibilities may also include didactic instruction in coursework and laboratories for our residents and graduate students.

    Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will lead and support residents and faculty mentors in Medical Physics and Radiology, participate in resident education, and ensure success in both teaching and research programs (30% FTE).

Research opportunities exist via many ongoing and future industrial collaborations (20% FTE). For example, the Departments of Medical Physics and Radiology currently have multiple industrial relationships with companies like GE HealthCare, Canon Medical, Hologic, Accuray, Siemens Healthineers, IntraOp, and Change Healthcare.

The successful candidate will provide 50% FTE clinical medical physics services in x-ray imaging, as a member of the UW Radiological Physics Services, in support of the imaging programs of the UW Health clinics, and associated outreach hospitals and clinics. This support will include assistance in the acquisition and acceptance testing of imaging systems and annual quality assurance testing of existing imaging systems (radiography, mammography, fluoroscopy, angiography, and CT). This also will include equipment testing and other assistance in the accreditation of imaging systems by the American College of Radiology, the Joint Commission, and MQSA requirements for mammography as a qualified medical physicist. Other clinical physics duties will include the optimization of imaging protocols, and radiation safety. Many of these duties will involve substantial collaborations with clinical staff.

The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and SMPH. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
