Job Summary:
This position will provide instruction for the Adult Basic Education (ABE) component of the Adult Education Program in compliance with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDWLD) Adult Education curriculum and will work with students to pursue post-secondary education or skilled employment.
Job Duties:
Plan, teach, and evaluate student work in assigned ABE classes in compliance with the TDWLD Adult Education curriculum. Teaching responsibilities may include day, evening, or weekend classes on and off-campus, using various formats for delivery. Assist with the administration and interpretation of students’ scores on State approved examinations for student placement and instruction. Assist Adult Education students with career advisement needs and implement workforce development initiatives to help students transition to post-secondary education and employment opportunities. Connect students to academic programs within Volunteer State Community College as well as industry certifications via the Economic and Community Development Division at the College. Work with students to improve workforce development skills. Oversee several workforce development programs (NorthStar Digital Literacy, WIN Career Readiness System, and multiple Integrated Education and Training (IET) programs. Serve as liaison to Admissions and Financial Aid Departments. Attend required meetings and training events. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
Tennessee Teacher’s License is required unless an exception is approved by the Adult Education division of TDWLD.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification as a Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) proctor.
Experience working in Adult Education (through Coalition of Adult Basic Education (COABE) or TDLWD).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with classroom technology.
Familiarity with remote/virtual instruction.
Ability to help students navigate post-secondary education applications.
Ability to assist students in enrolling in IET programs.
Computer skills: Google Drive, Excel, Jobs4TN.
Pay Rate: $43,888 - $60,000 annual salary depending on experience
