Accounting Director directs the operations and policies of an accounting function. Implements accounting policies and procedures that adhere to governmental, financial, and tax regulations and comply with GAAP and IFRS standards. Being an Accounting Director monitors and evaluates accounting systems and processes to identify areas for improvement and optimization. Oversees overall monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes and reporting. Additionally, Accounting Director develops and directs accounting professionals and supports staff through subordinate managers. Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Assists the Chief Financial Officer with the financial affairs of the organization and with preparation of monthly financial statements and analysis for management. Primarily responsible for the monthly closing process, including account reconciliations and analysis. Also involved in year-end audit process assisting outside CPAs by responding to requests for information.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs monthly balance sheet account analysis, assists with or performs budget vs. actual analysis on a monthly basis, prepares various cash and balance sheet account reconciliations and books necessary journal entries on a monthly basis. Also prepares special reports as requested. The position should also be able to maintain appropriate accounting controls and identify opportunities for improvement in controls and efficiency of operations.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Broad knowledge of such fields as accounting, business administration, finance, etc. Equivalent to a four-year college degree, plus a minimum of three years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to subordinates, peers and supervisors. Ability to present reports to senior management and board members.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Position requires mathematical skills normally required to perform accounting and financial functions at a high level, along with the ability to interpret large amounts of quantitative data.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
Problem-solving skills necessary in a higher-level accounting or finance function are required.
